Skyros:The Soul of a Unique Island
Authentic encounters, living traditions, and unforgettable experiences in the heart of the Aegean.
Skyros: Culture, Flavours & Authentic Encounters
5 Nights | 6 Days
Still largely untouched by mass tourism, Skyros remains one of the Aegean’s best-kept secrets — an island of quiet beauty, living traditions, and a way of life that has not been shaped around visitors. This six-day journey is designed for travellers who want to discover a more authentic side of Greece, through the people, landscapes, flavours, and stories that define the island.
From the rare Skyrian Horse and the prehistoric site of Palamari to traditional pottery, a fishing-boat experience, local cooking, and time to explore Chora, each day reveals a different side of the island. Carefully selected meals, hidden beaches, artisan traditions, and warm local hosts create a journey that goes far beyond a typical Greek island holiday.
Time in Chora, carefully selected dining experiences, and guided exploration of the island’s hidden beaches, forest paths, and lesser-known corners complete a journey that goes far beyond a typical Greek island holiday.
More than a trip, this is an invitation to experience Skyros as it truly is: genuine, unhurried, and deeply connected to its heritage.

The Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Skyros. Discovering the Skyrian Horse
Your journey begins with an introduction to one of the island’s most treasured symbols: the Skyrian Horse.
In the afternoon, we visit Mouries, the largest conservation and breeding centre dedicated to the preservation of this rare breed. Here, you will meet one of the world’s most endangered horses and learn about the ongoing efforts to protect an important part of Skyros’ natural and cultural heritage.
As the sun sets over the Skyrian countryside, the experience continues around the table at Mouries, where local flavours, warm hospitality, and a relaxed atmosphere provide the perfect introduction to the island.
Day 2: History, Pottery & Meaningful Connections
The day begins with a journey into Skyros’ distant past through a visit to the prehistoric settlement of Palamari and the Archaeological Museum, revealing the island’s rich history and long-standing connection to the Aegean.
Later, we step into the world of traditional Skyrian pottery. Under the guidance of master potter Yiannis Ftoulis, guests decorate their own ceramic plate or mug using traditional motifs and techniques. The pieces remain in the kiln for firing and are collected later in the journey as a personal keepsake.
In the afternoon, we take part in a unique experience at the Skyros Island Horse Trust, where observation, trust, and interaction create a thoughtful and authentic connection with the Skyrian Horse.
Day 3: Skyros from the Sea
Today is dedicated to the island’s maritime traditions and deep connection with the Aegean.
Aboard a traditional fishing boat, we discover hidden coves, remote beaches, and the daily life of local fishermen. Along the way, we gain insight into fishing practices that continue to shape life on the island.
The experience ends with lunch at a seaside taverna before returning to the hotel for some time to relax. In the evening, we join local hosts for an authentic cooking experience, discovering traditional recipes, local ingredients, and the stories that accompany them.
Day 4: Chora at Your Own Pace. Seaside Gastronomy
Today offers time to explore Skyros’ enchanting capital at your own rhythm.
Wander through Chora’s whitewashed alleys, discover artisan workshops, admire the traditional architecture, or pause for a coffee beneath the island’s historic castle. Those wishing to delve deeper into the island’s heritage may choose to visit the Faltaits Museum.
In the evening, a memorable dinner awaits beside the sea, where fresh local ingredients, creative cuisine, and the sound of the waves come together in one of the culinary highlights of the journey.
Day 5: Hidden Corners of Skyros
Our final full day is devoted to discovering a different side of the island — one that remains far from the rhythms of mass tourism.
Accompanied by a local guide, we explore forest trails, secluded beaches, and lesser-known corners of Skyros. Along the way, we stop for coffee with locals and hear stories that reveal the character, traditions, and everyday life of the island.
The day offers a final opportunity to experience the authenticity that makes Skyros so special before gathering together for a farewell dinner.
Day 6: Departure
After breakfast, it is time to say goodbye to Skyros.
Before departing, you will collect your finished ceramic piece — a personal reminder of the experiences, encounters, and memories created during your stay. You leave not only with photographs and souvenirs, but with a deeper understanding of an island that has remained beautifully untouched by the pace of mass tourism.
